Austin Takes Wildcard Game in Deciding Game Monday, October 2nd , 2023 The Austin Desperados are heading to the Divisional Series, having narrowly defeated the Detroit Giants. Austin edged Detroit in the series 2-1, with a win at Dell Diamond in the clinching game by a 9-2 margin. Jim Sykora turned in a strong offensive performance for the Desperados and got series MVP for his efforts. "I'll never turn down another trophy for my mantle, another accomplishment to remember once my career is over," he said. "What I would really remember, though, is a World Series win." It remains to be seen how the playoffs will conclude, but if Sykora continues to swing a hot bat, his team will no doubt have a chance. For the series, he hit .455 with a .500 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, 3 RBI and scored 4 runs. The Austin Desperados will play against the Halifax Heathens in the next round. Halifax had a bye in the Wildcard Game.
