Austin Shuts Out Tampa Bay, 17-0 Friday, August 16th , 2024 The Tampa Bay Captains were almost helpless in their 17-0 loss to the Austin Desperados and hurler J.R. Mitchell. Mitchell kept the Captains confused all game, spinning a 3-hit shutout. "Tip your hat to Mitchell," Tampa Bay manager Roberto Quesada said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night." The 34-year-old right-hander had 1 walk and 5 strikeouts in a strong performance. "It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Mitchell said.
