Giants Need Extra Frames to Get Past Gladiators
The Detroit Giants weathered an outstanding game by Phoenix shortstop John Platzer to topple the Gladiators, 6-5. Platzer went 3-5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 and driving in 4. Lee Maher, 2-5, earned the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 2 innings. The Giants now own a record of 28-49.

Detroit got a clutch hit from Glenn Valentine. The shortstop launched a solo home run in the bottom of the tenth inning to win the game. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a kill shot.

Detroit manager Blake Barber was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys played hard," he said.
