The New York Nightmare got a stellar effort from pitcher Jose Contreras, helping New York score a win over the visiting Cincinnati Royals, 4-2. Contreras got the win, improving to 6-6. He gave up 5 hits and walked 3 over 7.1 innings. He allowed 1 run. The save went to Justin Gravely, his 9th this season.

New York first baseman Juan Andrade landed a blow when he belted a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first. It was his 20th home run of the season. With it, the Nightmare took a 3-0 lead.

"Jose is a tough competitor," said New York manager Joey Bishop.

The victory puts New York at 29-44.
