Eagles Score Late to Beat Gangsters, 4-3
|
The Indianapolis Eagles did just enough to sneak past the Chicago Gangsters, 4-3, at The Hideout. Indianapolis pitcher John Hennig, in particular, had a standout performance. The winner in relief was Tim Sindt. He is now 2-0. The right-hander allowed 3 runs on 6 hits in 3 innings. The Eagles have now reeled off 6 straight wins.
Indianapolis used the timely hitting of Jim Van Donsel to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Eagles on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
Van Donsel told a Indianapolis Gazette reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
