Extra innings were needed to determine a winner at San Francisco Grounds.

Led by Jared Smith, the Oakland Invaders defeated the San Francisco Fire, 7-5, in 12 innings. Smith, a native of Allentown, Pennsylvania, slugged 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice for the Invaders. Oakland, at 33-35, sits in second place in the National Conference South Division.

Smith had a game-changing home run in the top of the 12th. On a full count fastball from Bill Flowers, he banged a 2-run home run to left, giving the Invaders a 7-5 lead. It was the 6th home run of the year for Smith.

"It's a satisfying feeling, to win like we did," said Smith.
