The home crowd had a good time watching the New York Nightmare and Detroit Giants get after it.

The Detroit Giants overcame a good performance by New York center fielder Frank Hoffman to knock off New York, 7-5, at Ballpark of Detroit. Hoffman was 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Detroit reliever Nate Ray snagged the win, upping his record to 3-0. Jose Contreras shouldered the loss. Lee Maher closed the door for Detroit, picking up his 9th save of the year.

The Giants got a big at-bat from third baseman Ramon Dozal. For the game, Dozal was 1-3 with a double and a walk. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 12th double of the season gave Detroit a 6-4 lead.

"Trying isn't good enough in this league," said Dozal. "You've got to get results."

The victory makes Detroit 21-44.
