Gladiators Lose at Home, 7-1
|
The Halifax Heathens rode a solid performance from 24-year-old starting pitcher Andy Swift to a win, beating the Phoenix Gladiators, 7-1, at Gladiators Ballpark. Halifax now has a record of 97-60 with the win.
Tony Vela had a big run-scoring double for the Heathens in the top of the second inning. With Halifax leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a slider from Johnny Keener, who is tied for 6th in the AC in complete games with 1, and swatted a double to right. It was his 14th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Heathens ahead, 2-0.
"It never gets old," said Vela. "Winning, that is."
