Late Offense Lifts Tampa Bay to 9-7 Victory
The Tampa Bay Captains weathered an outstanding game by Daytona Beach right fielder Russ Reinertsen to topple the Sea Turtles, 9-7. Reinertsen went 4-5 with 2 doubles and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Tampa Bay reliever Jesse Vecchio got the win, raising his record to 3-3. Jeff Adams was tagged with the loss. Their 24-34 record puts the Captains second in the American Conference Central Division.

Tampa Bay used the clutch hitting of Rocky Hawke to capture the win. The pinch hitter drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Captains ahead, 8-7. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a big one.

"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Hawke.
