Heathens Rally to Eke Out Win
|
The Halifax Heathens racked up a win at Estadio Azteca, bumping off the Phoenix Gladiators, 6-5, in 10 innings. Branden Covington, who started for Halifax, pitched effectively for his team. Halifax reliever Jeff Buck picked up the win, while Manny Brant took the loss for Phoenix. The American Conference South Division-leading Heathens are 88-55.
A crucial at-bat came with runners on 1st and 3rd and two out in the bottom of the eighth inning. That's when first baseman Tony Vela hit a 2-run double. The Heathens went on to win.
"I went out and just tried to do my job," said Covington.
