Phoenix Sent Home with 4-1 Loss
|
Cincinnati used a superb performance from starting pitcher Josh Huggins to down the Phoenix Gladiators, 4-1. Huggins, now 10-7, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 5, walking 4, and allowing no runs. Roberto Salazar closed the door for Cincinnati, picking up his 35th save of the year.
Rick Brown had a big 2-run triple for the Royals in the top of the fifth inning. With Cincinnati leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a slider from 24-year old right-handed pitcher Hector Berrios and swatted a triple to right-center. It was his 3rd triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Royals ahead, 3-0.
"The effort we put into this one paid off," Brown said.
The setback makes Phoenix 65-74.
