Fire Absorb 6-3 Loss at Nightmare Stadium
|
The San Francisco Fire got a superb performance from pitcher James Dobyns, but the New York Nightmare still won the game, 6-3. Dobyns threw 5.1 innings allowing 1 run. The win went to Allan Clemente in relief. His record improves to 4-4. Keith Hawes took the loss. Tony Rosario earned the save for New York, his 20th.
New Martinsville, West Virginia-born Bobby Brenner came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the seventh, with runners on 2nd and 3rd and the Nightmare trailing 3-2, he hit a 2-run single to right-center to put New York on top.
New York manager Joey Bishop called it "a good, solid win."
The Nightmare win now puts them at 67-69.
