The San Diego Fleet took on the Detroit Giants at Ballpark of Detroit.

Despite a great performance by Detroit center fielder Steve McLaughlin, the San Diego Fleet defeated the Giants by the score of 9-6 at Ballpark of Detroit. McLaughlin went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. Justin Pierce closed the game out for San Diego, earning his 17th save.

San Diego won the game in part because of Mark Torres. The left fielder ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Fleet ahead, 8-6. For the game, Torres had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.

"We'd like to put some distance between ourselves and the rest of the division," said Torres.

The first-place Fleet, at 82-53, now lead their division by 23½ games.
