Hollywood Loses, 5-4, in 14
|
The Detroit Giants did just enough to secure a victory over the Hollywood Stars, 5-4, in 14 innings at Ballpark of Detroit. Nobody did more than pitcher Lee Maher. Nick Turpen picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 5-2. Pat Eisen suffered the loss. The loss makes Hollywood 58-76.
Batting in the bottom of the 14th, 26-year old shortstop Glenn Valentine had a real shot to win the game. Hollywood pitcher Pat Eisen was determined not to let it happen. But with two outs, Valentine hit a run-scoring single. The Giants had a walk-off triumph.
"I made some pitches when I had to," said Maher.
