The Fountain Hills 23ers beat the San Francisco Fire, 4-1, at San Francisco Grounds. Starting pitcher Curtis Gring was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Wade McGonigle closed the game out for Fountain Hills, earning his 6th save. Fountain Hills currently is in second place in the American Conference North East Division at 64-69.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Corey Pope? The Fountain Hills left fielder had a 2-run single in the top of the third inning to put the 23ers on top, 3-1. For the game, Pope had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
Pope attributed the win to "everyone pulling their weight."
