23ers Best Caribou in Pitching Duel
|
Taylor Motyl, who finished 5th in the NC in wins with 17 last year, imposed his will on the Caribou from the get-go. Relying mainly on his fastball, the right-hander spearheaded the 2-0 Fountain Hills triumph. Wade McGonigle got the save, the 24th for him this season. The 23ers now own a record of 63-69.
The game was on the line with two out in the top of the eighth inning, but Joe Woolverton didn't flinch. With a runner on 3rd and Vancouver trailing 1-0, Woolverton retired Cesar Ornelas to end the threat. "Nothing to it," said Woolverton, with a wink.
