Gladiators Need Extra Innings to Top Desperados, 7-5
The rain did not keep Phoenix and Austin from finishing their game.

The Phoenix Gladiators topped the Austin Desperados, 7-5, in 11 innings at Dell Diamond. The game was highlighted by the performance of Phoenix pitcher Mike Walsh. Rob Alvarez earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 2.2 innings. He upped his record to 4-4.

Phoenix used the timely hitting of Cory Sperber to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Gladiators on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"Big win," said Walsh.

At 62-67, the Gladiators claim third place in the American Conference South Division.
