Invaders Stumble, Lose to Gangsters
|
The exploits of first baseman Ryan Griffitt, who finished 3rd in the NC in extra base hits with 63 in 2014, helped the Chicago Gangsters defeat the Oakland Invaders, 8-2. Griffitt was 2 for 3 with a triple and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Dave Harvey, who is tied for 9th in the AC in innings pitched with 68.2, was the winning pitcher. Over 7 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 9 hits, with no walks and 4 strikeouts. Chicago is now 23-32, while Oakland is 31-24.
The Gangsters got an important contribution from left fielder Brandon Titus, who in the bottom of the fifth hit a cutter to right-center for a 2-run double. It was his 8th double of the season and put the Gangsters ahead, 5-2.
Titus called the win "a collective effort."
