Scorpions Suffer 12-0 Drubbing
The Daytona Beach Sea Turtles pasted the Syracuse Scorpions with a convincing 12-0 defeat at Scorpion Stadium. Derek Maher was a prime factor in the Daytona Beach win. He was 4-6 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Mal Burkes, the winner, improved to 1-0. He held Syracuse to no runs on 5 hits over 7.1 innings, while racking up 8 strikeouts. After today's action, Daytona Beach sits at 22-32; Syracuse slips to 18-36.

Jon Dearman had a big 2-run home run for the Sea Turtles in the top of the second inning. With Daytona Beach leading 2-0 and a runner on 3rd, he sized up a splitter from 24-year old right-handed pitcher Juan Rosales and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Sea Turtles on top, 4-0.

Sea Turtles manager Edwin Gomez had nothing but praise for his players after an impressive win, calling the result one of the team's best performances of the season. "Everything just came together on our end," he said. "I didn't need to do too much."
