Whistlers Run Win Streak to 6
|
Starting pitcher Jay Helm gave the Boston Whistlers a rock-solid effort. The New York native helped his team defeat the Tampa Bay Captains, 3-2, at Whislters Park. Scott Johnson earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 2 innings. He upped his record to 2-3. Blake Bryant sewed up the save, his 12th.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Brian Roseman came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Tampa Bay pitcher Phil Gregoire, he hit a 2-2 sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Boston on top, 3-2.
Boston manager Mike Plocher called it "a good, solid win."
The Whistlers have now reeled off 6 straight wins.
