Marauders Get One-Run Win at Daytona Beach
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Philadelphia Marauders and the Daytona Beach Sea Turtles, William Deel, who leads the AC in wins with 8, was the difference-maker. The Philadelphia right-hander spearheaded the 3-2 win. Deel, now 8-1, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 7, walking 0, and allowing 2 runs. Vince Mellon got credit for the save for Philadelphia. It was his 8th of the year.
Philadelphia used the timely hitting of Johnny McCargar to capture the win. The shortstop socked a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Marauders ahead, 3-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"I was able to change speeds effectively tonight," said Deel.
Philadelphia goes to 29-18. The win puts them 6½ games up in their division.
