Steve McClung was superb against Chicago. The left-hander had a fastball that was virtually unhittable at times. The result was a Desperados victory. The score was 7-2. The winning pitcher was McClung, now 2-2. He tossed 5.2 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 10. By defeating Chicago, the third-place Desperados improved to 19-25.

An inflection point occurred with no one out in the bottom of the fourth. That's when Desperados first baseman Brad Largent hit a fastball from Jason Strobel for a 2-run single. Just like that, Austin was up, 2-1.

"I had one goal in mind," said McClung. "Keep pounding the zone."
