The Carolina Reapers beat the Detroit Giants, 9-5, at Ballpark of Detroit. The Reapers got a fine performance from first baseman Bobby Phillips, who belted 2 home runs. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3. The winner was Jimmy DeMoss, who threw 98 pitches over 6.1 innings. The left-hander was charged with 5 runs on 6 hits. Carolina goes to 21-22, Detroit to 13-30.

Carolina used a well-timed hit by Dustin Sheedy to capture the win. The third baseman socked a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Reapers ahead, 3-2. Though it was his only hit in 5 at-bats, it was important.

"We took advantage of our opportunities," Sheedy told the Carolina News. "It's as simple as that."
