Detroit Defeated By Reapers, 6-4

Carolina and Detroit duked it out and the Reapers came out victorious.
The Carolina Reapers defeated the Detroit Giants, 6-4, in National Conference action at Reedy River Stadium. Carolina pitcher Steve Cates had a standout performance. The winning pitcher was Cates, now 10-5. He tossed 5 innings of 1-hit ball, while walking 6 and fanning 6. Chris Bruhl got credit for the save for Carolina. It was his 7th of the year.
Bobby Phillips had a big 2-run home run for the Reapers in the bottom of the first inning. With Carolina leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a slider from 34-year old right-handed pitcher Dave Shevlin and punished it. The result was his 14th home run of the season, which put the Reapers on top, 3-0.
"Steve giving us the start that he did was huge," said Carolina manager Julio Rodriguez.
The Reapers now own a record of 57-70.
