Julio Herrera did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Halifax Heathens from being beaten, 5-4, to the Tampa Bay Captains at Ahoy Park. Herrera was 4 for 4 with a double and 3 singles, while adding 3 RBI. Tampa Bay reliever Mike Dean picked up the win, raising his record to 1-0. Steve McManus was tagged with the loss. Their 49-75 record puts the Captains last in the American Conference Central Division.

Jonathan McCarthy, who led the AC in triples with 8 last year, came through for Tampa Bay with a run-scoring double in the bottom of the eighth. The left fielder went 3 for 5 for the game, including 1 home run and 2 doubles. He scored 1 run and collected 2 runs batted in.

"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Halifax manager David Morris said, following the tough loss.
