Babcock Lifts Fire to 8-7 Win
Malcolm Babcock led San Francisco to a win over New York. The final score was 8-7. The Greenville, Kentucky native collected 3 extra-base hits, including 1 home run and 2 doubles. San Francisco reliever Ron Lombardi picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Chris Wyzard was saddled with the loss. Edwin Rincones earned the save, his 1st, for the Fire.

The Nightmare had been locked in a 6-6 tie with the Fire going into the bottom of the eighth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old right fielder Jim Hofland came to the plate. Hofland hit a run-scoring double on a 0-2 slider from New York hurler Allan Clemente. It was Hofland's 8th double of the year.

"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Babcock.

The Fire improved their record to 21-18 by beating New York.
