The Austin Desperados beat the Boston Whistlers, 3-2, in 10 innings. Austin pitcher and Harrison, Ohio, native Byron Stanton led the way. Bob Baucke came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. His record now stands at 2-2. Austin now sits at 17-19, while Boston falls to 19-17.
The Desperados got a clutch hit from designated hitter Matt Fishburn. In the bottom of the tenth, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Desperados.
Austin manager commended his team for exhibiting "no shortage of effort."
