San Francisco Beats Cincinnati, 2-1
|
The San Francisco Fire rode a solid performance from 30-year-old starting pitcher Miguel Berrios to a win, beating the Cincinnati Royals, 2-1, at San Francisco Grounds. Picking up his 7th save was 22-year old left-handed pitcher Jesus Henriguez. The Fire sport a record of 13-22.
Jason Clare had a big run-scoring double for the Fire in the bottom of the fifth inning. With San Francisco leading 1-0 and a runner on 3rd, he got a curveball from Andy Dooley, who finished 2nd in the NC in wins with 18 in 2020, and swatted a double to center. It was his 5th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Fire ahead, 2-0.
Clare expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
