In a high-scoring contest between Indianapolis and Detroit, third baseman Victor Mendez was a difference-maker. Mendez, who is tied for 8th in the NC in stolen bases with 6, distinguished himself in the 9-8 Indianapolis win. He went 2 for 3 with a double and 2 walks, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Indianapolis goes to 10-9.

The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the ninth. With one out, Mendez hit a fastball from Tony Gutierrez for a run-scoring single. The Eagles, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.

"I like the vibe in the clubhouse after a win," said Mendez. "It sure beats the alternative."
