Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the Phoenix Gladiators home opener. Felipe Ayala started for the home team against Curtis Gring for the Fountain Hills 23ers. The Gladiators were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 6-4, Fountain Hills. John Platzer, though, was impressive. Earning his 1st save of the year was Wade McGonigle.

Chris Epstein came through with a big-time hit for Fountain Hills. The right fielder smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to give his team the lead, 6-4. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"Solid performance from our side," said 23ers manager Efren Nieman.
