Greg Sandlin, who finished 5th in the NC in innings pitched with 217.2 in 2016, was locked in. The left-hander led the Cincinnati Royals to a 5-4 win against the Maine Pines at The Castle. Kevin Kovach earned the save for Cincinnati, his 1st of the year. The loss drops the Pines to 10-5.

Cincinnati took the lead, 5-4, on Eric Hayes's 5th home run of the season. The solo home run came off Maine pitcher Mike Poussard in the bottom of the seventh.

Hayes attributed the win to his team's "grittiness."
