The rain came, as predicted, but the Newport News Wranglers and Sikeston Shamrocks were able to complete their ballgame.

The Newport News Wranglers weathered a fine game by Sikeston shortstop Chris Cooper to upend the Shamrocks, 11-8, at Shamrocks Park. Cooper went 4 for 6 with a home run and 2 doubles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. The winner in relief was Jim Unknown. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 7 hits in 2.1 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0. Jim Unknown recorded his 1st save for Newport News.

Newport News used a big swing from Josh Dunn to get the win. The catcher walloped a 3-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Wranglers up, 5-0. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it changed the outcome.

"This game had a little bit of everything," said Dunn.

The win puts the Wranglers at 72-64, while the Shamrocks drop to 93-43.
