Great Effort by Sea Turtles 3B Natera Not Enough in 8-4 Loss
The Daytona Beach Sea Turtles got a superb performance from third baseman Alex Natera, but the Cincinnati Royals still won the game, 8-4. Natera was 4 for 4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. Gordie Clifford picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Nick Wolfe suffered the loss. The victory makes Cincinnati 8-2, as the team seeks a return to the playoffs in 2023.

The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Eric Hayes came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Daytona Beach pitcher Nick Wolfe, he hit a 2-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Cincinnati on top, 5-4.

"It never gets old," said Hayes. "Winning, that is."
