Fountain Hills 23ers starter Curtis Gring turned in a top-notch performance against the Boston Whistlers at Fountain Park. The result was a win for the 23ers, 5-0. Gring, now 1-0, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 1 hit, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing no runs. The win puts Fountain Hills at 8-2.

The 23ers got a big hit from shortstop Jeff Yule. Facing Boston pitcher Kory Pullar in the bottom of the fifth, Yule pounded a 2-run double to right. His 4th double of the season put the 23ers ahead, 4-0.

"Curtis pounded the strike zone and made good pitches when he needed to," said Fountain Hills manager Efren Nieman.
