Baumgardner Put in Cooler, Hitless Against Aurora
Wednesday, May 15th , 2024
Santa Ana left fielder Mike Baumgardner went 0-for-4 in Santa Ana's 5-3 triumph over the Aurora Paints, snapping his 20-game hitting streak.
Baumgardner spoke to BNN after the game and said he "knew the hitting streak would end sooner or later."
"I just would have preferred later," he said with a laugh. "It was fun though."
When Baumgardner made an out in his last chance at the plate, his teammates congratulated him in the dugout. In the clubhouse after the game, he seemed unbothered by the streak ending.
"There's nothing scientific about it, that's for sure," Paints manager Orlando Salinas said of Baumgardner's streak. "He had a nice little run. Let him start another one when we finish the series here."
So far this season, Baumgardner is batting .378 with 7 home runs.

Kemps 5-for-6 Against Black Aces
Wednesday, May 15th , 2024
Speaking with reporters after a dominating hitting performance, Mike Kemps said his club's tilt with the Santa Ana Black Aces "felt almost like batting practice." The 20-year-old left fielder went a remarkable 5-for-6 at the plate.
"I saw the ball well and could just about hit it anywhere I wanted," he recalled later.
However, his sensational day wasn't enough for the Aurora Paints, who were topped by the Black Aces, 5-3.
"It's a good lesson for him, I guess," Paints manager Orlando Salinas said. "Sometimes Mike is going to lose. But I would rather him go 5-for-6 and lose than go 0-for-6 and lose."
Mike Kemps singled in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 8th and singled in the 10th.
Kemps is batting .556 this season in 11 games with no home runs, 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored. He has 15 hits in 27 at-bats.

Guerra Smacks 5 Hits for Cyclones
Wednesday, May 15th , 2024
5 hits in a game is generally considered a noteworthy achievement, but for Juan Guerra, it felt rather hollow.
The 20-year-old went 5-for-5 at the plate at Alpines Stadium, but his Mt. Vernon Cyclones fell to the Savannah Alpines, 8-5.
"It's hard to get too excited," the center fielder told BNN following the game. "After a game like this, everyone's quiet and they just want to go home."
Juan Guerra singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit an RBI double in the 8th.
So far this season, Guerra has put up a .350 batting average with 21 hits, 2 home runs and 14 RBIs.
