Aguirre Hurls No-Hitter Against Bowsers
Tuesday, May 9th , 2023
The Mexico City Aztecs relied on no-hit stuff from starter Luis Aguirre to defeat the Columbus Bowsers, 6-0, at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
"It's quite a thrill," Aguirre told the media afterward. "This is a top-notch league. A no-hitter against any team in the league is something special. I can't believe I did it."
To get his name logged in the Southern A records, he stopped Columbus cold and hitless, surrendering 2 walks and fanning 11 of the 29 batters he faced.
Mexico City manager Tony Velez was in a jovial mode after the game, kidding with reporters that Aguirre "made managing easy today."
"I didn't have hardly any decisions to make like I usually do," he said. "I didn't even have to come up with a pinch hitter."
To date, Aguirre has a 3-1 mark in 7 starts with a 2.88 ERA. He has given up 39 hits in 40.2 innings, struck out 47 and issued 9 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .252 batting average against him.
