Comets Halt DeVaul Hit Streak

The Kalamazoo Comets clamped down on Paul DeVaul and put a stop to his hit streak. He went without a hit, ending the run at 23 straight games, but it didn't keep the Partons from winning. Dollywood downed the Comets, 2-1.
"It was bound to happen," DeVaul said with a shrug after the game.
This year, DeVaul is hitting .289 with 7 home runs and 28 RBIs in 44 games played. He also boasts an OBP of .362 with 15 walks and 30 runs scored.

Cimini Has Hot Hand, Bangs 5 hits

A jubilant Kevin Cimini joined the postgame press conference at Kansas City Grounds to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Deltaville Deltas pitching staff he had just vanquished.
"It may not have looked like it," said the Kansas City Dust Devils third baseman, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different."
That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-5 hitting performance, which led to the 12-10 Dust Devils win.
"He made it look easy," said Edgar Hernandez, manager of the Deltas. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously."
Kevin Cimini singled in the 1st, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit a solo-shot off Jim Unknown in the 9th.
Cimini is batting .237 with 6 home runs and 17 RBIs this season.
