The Hialeah Firecats withstood an impressive performance by Miami first baseman Steve Bailey to defeat the Boll Weevils, 7-6, at Ballpark of Miami. Bailey was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Armando Salas finished the game for Hialeah and earned his 19th save. The win cannot erase the fact that Hialeah still has a disappointing 41-84 record.

The Firecats beat the Boll Weevils in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Ricardo de Leon produced in the top of the ninth. Batting against Nick Chinn, de Leon gave his team the lead, 7-6, when he hit a 2-run single.

"It was offense that won us the game," said winning manager John Costa.
