Gerardo Matute, who is tied for 4th in the W-AA with a 8.8 K/9 rate, had a strong outing for the Miami Boll Weevils against the Hialeah Firecats at Ballpark of Miami. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 2-0 win. The 5th-place Boll Weevils bumped their record to 54-70.

Matute earned the win to move to 11-5. In his 8-inning performance, he scattered 3 hits, striking out 7 and walking 1. The right-hander allowed the Firecats few scoring opportunities.

"I just tried to attack the bottom of the zone," Matute said.
