In a low-scoring affair between the Hialeah Firecats and the Vermont Milkmen, pitcher Frank Howerton was the difference between victory and defeat. The Hialeah right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 3-1 Firecats win. The winner was Howerton. He threw 5.2 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Vicente Perez. The last-place Firecats own a record of 39-83.

Hialeah used the stroke of Jeremy Callis to get the win. The center fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Firecats ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.

"I like the vibe in the clubhouse after a win," said Howerton. "It sure beats the alternative."
