In a close game at Ballpark of Bangor, the Bangor Lumberjacks edged the Kalamazoo Comets, 4-3. Bangor first baseman John Billings stood apart with his performance. He was 2-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Manny Velez earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. His record is now 5-6. The win puts the Lumberjacks at 69-70, while the Comets drop to 38-101.

Bangor took the lead, 4-3, on Gilberto Cruzgonzalez's 16th home run of the season. The solo home run came off Kalamazoo pitcher Mike Gunter in the bottom of the eighth.

"We made a couple of mistakes," said Kalamazoo skipper Morgan Van Dyke, "and it cost us."
