Down to Defeat Goes Long Beach, 8-5
|
Though he had a terrific game, John Yarbrough could not prevent his team, the Long Beach Keys, from absorbing a loss. Pueblo won the game, 8-5. Yarbrough went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. The winner in relief was Mario Villalobos. He is now 1-0. The right-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits in 2 innings. The Heroes, at 75-62, have now won 4 straight.
Pueblo used the timely hitting of Alex Mieles to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Heroes on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I like our moxie," said Heroes manager Jeremiah Simpson.
