Sweepers Win Squeaker, 3-2, Over Admirals
|
Nick Schultz had a good game, but he could not keep the Barrie Admirals from falling, 3-2, to the Nashua Sweepers at Stadia de Leones. The Barrie center fielder hit 2 home runs in the loss. The winner was Ray Vernier, who threw 101 pitches over 7.2 innings. The right-hander was charged with 2 runs on 8 hits. With the win over Barrie, the Sweepers improved to 74-60.
Nashua used a well-timed hit by Tim Royal to capture the win. The left fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Sweepers ahead, 2-1. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
In postgame comments to the Nashua Observer, Royal said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
