Tropics Drop Sweepers, 3-2
|
In a low-scoring affair between the White Deer Tropics and the Nashua Sweepers, pitcher Jake Fish was the difference between victory and defeat. The White Deer right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 3-2 Tropics win. The winner was Fish. He threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The loser was Ray Vernier. Earning his 26th save for White Deer was Troy Zufelt.
White Deer used a clutch at-bat from Mike Ross to capture the win. The left fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Tropics ahead, 3-1. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Nashua manager Steve Reid. "The effort was great."
At 65-64, the Tropics find themselves in 4th place in the Southern A West Division.
