Mexico City right-hander Mel Mercado helped his team edge White Deer by the score of 3-2 in 10 innings. Mercado kept the opposing lineup in check. Their 87-33 record puts the Aztecs first in the Southern A West Division.

The Aztecs were down to their final out when right fielder Steve Farnsworth turned a 1-1 fastball from Taylor Marshall into a 2-run single. The walk-off single made the Tony Gwynn Stadium crowd go wild.
