Sweepers Score Late to Beat Werewolves, 2-1
|
The Nashua Sweepers earned a close win over the London Werewolves, thanks in part to Oscar Lopez. The Nashua right-hander, who is tied for 3rd in the S-A in complete games with 1, played a key role in the 2-1 victory. Lopez yielded 1 run over 7.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 3, and struck out 5. His record improves to 8-7. Glen Foster closed the door for Nashua, picking up his 23rd save of the year.
Nashua used the timely hitting of Joe Pettit to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Sweepers on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Pettit called the win a testament to his team's "tenacity."
The win puts Nashua at 55-48 this season.
