Behind the bravura of catcher Mike Schantz, the Kalamazoo Comets topped the Columbus Bowsers by the score of 6-4. Schantz went 3 for 3 with 3 singles, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 times for the Comets. Jim Unknown earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits in 3.1 innings. He upped his record to 1-0. The loss makes Columbus 37-45.

Matt Miranda drove in one run for Kalamazoo. The 25-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Brian Ashley. It was his 7th RBI of the season.

"We're producers not directors," said Schantz. "Produce a good swing. Can't direct where it goes."
