Sweepers Earn 4-1 Home Win
|
Nashua pitcher Paul Birchfield had a large part in his team subduing the Bangor Lumberjacks, 4-1. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the left-hander. Birchfield yielded 1 run over 7.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 0, and struck out 7. His record improves to 1-0. Matt Bowden closed out the game, earning his 1st save.
Mike Middlebrooks, the Nashua second baseman, contributed a run-scoring single in the bottom of the third inning to make the score 2-1, Sweepers. For the game, Middlebrooks was 1-4.
"The only difference is executing pitches and not executing pitches," said Birchfield. "When you don't execute, you get beat. When you execute, you usually give your team a chance to win."
Nashua has now won 5 in a row.
