Not everyone stuck through the 59-minute rain delay, but those who did went home happy.
London starter Ricardo Alvarado put the Miami offense in a vise grip. The right-hander relied heavily on his changeup in leading the Tigers to a 7-1 win. Alvarado, now 3-2, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 7, walking 0, and allowing 1 run.
Tied up with the Boll Weevils in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Tigers got a boost from right fielder Mike Sargent. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Sargent saw a 2-1 splitter from Jose Ramirez and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put London on top, 2-1.
"This game will punch you right in the mouth," said Alvarado. "My job is to show up and give my team a chance."
After today's action, London sits at 31-17; Miami slips to 23-25.
