Comets Rebuff Sweepers, 5-4

The Kalamazoo Comets did just enough to sneak past the Nashua Sweepers, 5-4, at Wizards Stadium. Kalamazoo pitcher Brian Mabry, in particular, had a standout performance. The win belonged to Justin Tarin in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Steven Rudolph took the loss for Nashua. Nashua drops to 15-12.
Shaun Poquette's at-bat in the bottom of the seventh was significant, coming with the bases loaded and the game tied, 4-4. The Kalamazoo center fielder hit a run-scoring single off Steven Rudolph to put the Comets up.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Kalamazoo manager Morgan Van Dyke. "It's usually not just one thing."
